How Zaps Work
Zaps consist of two basic elements – triggers and actions. Triggers are specific events that occur in an app. Once the event happens, the Zap workflow begins, and certain actions follow. In DocSend, a trigger could be that a visitor opens a document link.
Actions begin after a trigger event occurs. In the DocSend example, an action that follows the “new visit” trigger might be “add a row to a Google Sheet”. In other words, whenever a DocSend visit occurs, Zapier will add a row of information to a specified Google Sheet.
Zaps can have one trigger and many actions. There are also two types of Zap actions:
- App actions add or update data in an app, like creating a new row of information in a spreadsheet.
- App searches look up information that can be used in later actions, like finding a date in a certain spreadsheet.
DocSend Triggers
DocSend currently offers four triggers that can be configured with thousands of different actions across other applications.
- New visit: Triggers actions when someone visits a link.
- New link created: Triggers actions when a new link is created.
- New Space created: Triggers actions when a new Space is created.
- New Space downloaded: Triggers actions when someone downloads a Space.

How to Create a Zap
You’ll need a Zapier account to start creating Zaps. Check out How to Create a Zap to learn the basic steps in creating your first Zap.
Once you’re more familiar with the basics of creating a Zap, you can create more complex, multi-step Zaps and automate your workflow even further. For example, you can create a Zap that sends an email notification and a Slack message after someone visits a document.
For more information, see Maximize your productivity with multi-step Zaps.
Things to Consider
- Zaps can only be created for links you own (create).
